An investigation has started after Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) found evidence that hackers had attempted to breach the company’s computer systems.
According to the Yonhap news agency, DSME reported the case to police, which is now looking into the case.
Government officials have not provided further information on the circumastances of the attack, Yonhap however reports that the government denied speculation in the media that North Korean operatives were looking for information related to the South’s nuclear submarine program.
This comes after HMM warned customers that its email systems had been attacked. HMM managed to recover its email in most areas, warning customers to use other forms of communications if they were having problems contacting local agents or to contact the home office.
What is more, no sensitive data was accessed and HMM was able to limit the scope of the attack.
