The Port Authority Network of Northern Tyrrhenian Sea conducted the second Smooth Ports partner meeting, with attendees from Bulgaria, France, Italy and Germany, who discussed the progress of the project.
The Smooth Ports project is an effort to reduce CO2 emissions in ports by reducing truck transports in ports and their hinterland. A special focus is on optimization of administrative procedures in order to save unnecessary transport within the port.
During the meeting, the partners agreed to arrange an additional study to the Port of Antwerp to exchange approaches to reducing emissions. Concerning port of Antwerp, EU policy makers also paid a visit to the port and acknowledged its efforts to meet IMO’s green goals to at least halve GHG emissions from international shipping by 2050.
Moreover, during the meeting, the technical department of the Port Authority presented the One-Stop-Shop facility, which will come into force by the end of 2021, and will improve the work of the control authorities and reduce the complexity of goods clearing for the participants in the logistics chain. The system will also have its own role in reducing the port’s emissions.
