The UK’s Secretary of State for Transport has issued approval for a multi-user bulk liquid green energy terminal situated at the Port of Immingham in England.
As announced, the Immingham Green Energy Terminal was granted approval on 6 February. The project comprises a new liquid bulk import terminal and associated processing facility, the purpose of which is to deliver a green hydrogen production facility.
Furthermore, the facility will import the ammonia, which will be stored and processed on-site to produce green hydrogen, to be transported to filling stations across the UK.
Key infrastructure for the project includes a new approach trestle, jetty superstructure, topside infrastructure, and land-side processing facilities. The facility is expected to generate 300 MW of hydrogen.
The new initiative is being developed in collaboration with Associated British Ports (ABP) and Air Products, with ammonia sourced from Air Products’ facilities in Saudi Arabia.
ABP had submitted initial plans for the energy terminal to the UK government in September 2023, with the project undergoing a thorough review including both public and private consultations.
While no official dates have been announced for the start or completion of the project, construction is expected to begin in the coming months.
