Hurtigruten launched silent, electric-powered and emission-free catamarans. The company has collaborated with Norwegian startup Brim Explorer, in order to introduced the battery powered catamarans, which are custom built for Polar water exploration. Starting operations in the spring of 2020, the 24-meter vessel will operate in daily ocean excursions from Longyearbyen on the Arctic island of Svalbard.

A new report by Martin Associates measures the impacts generated by maritime activity at US Port Everglades for the fiscal year 2018 (1st October 2017 through 30 September 2018). The cargo activity at the Port created an additional $30.1 billion of total economic output in Florida.

A Church of Scientology cruise ship quarantined by the Caribbean nation of St. Lucia for measles is due to arrive on Saturday, May 11, back at its home port on the island of Curacao, where it will face similar restrictions. A team of health officers in Curacao plans to visit the vessel once it returns.

A cruise ship that came into Canada Place in Vancouver Harbour on May 4th collided with another cruise ship. As Holland America stated, which owns both ships, they rubbed against each other while docking stern to stern. Despite the collision, no one was injured and passengers left the ship as planned.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) in Philippines has imposed 'close out dates' for cruise ships visiting Boracay Island in a bid to manage the carrying capacity of island and in light of an expected surge in tourist arrivals during summer time.
