Electric catamarans introduced for Polar water exploration

Hurtigruten launched silent, electric-powered and emission-free catamarans. The company has collaborated with Norwegian startup Brim Explorer, in order to introduced the battery powered catamarans, which are custom built for Polar water exploration. Starting operations in the spring of 2020, the 24-meter vessel will operate in daily ocean excursions from Longyearbyen on the Arctic island of Svalbard.

Port of Seattle announces shortlist for new cruise terminal project

The Port of Seattle announced the shortlisted companies to proceed in the process towards choosing a partner in the development and operation of a new cruise facility at the north end of Terminal 46. The Port concluded to three companies. The three teams responded to the Port’s Request for Qualifications issued in March and will now be invited to respond to a Request for Proposals, which is expected to be released in June.

Port of Amsterdam achieves transhipment record in 2018

Transhipment in the Port of Amsterdam grew to a record amount of 82.3 million tonnes in 2018. The North Sea Canal Area also saw transhipment achieving a record volume of 101.8 million tonnes. 2018 was also a record year in terms of the number of ship calls. Namely, the number of sea shipping movements in the North Sea Canal Area increased by 7% to 17,952, in comparison to 16,813 in 2017.
