Gas Transmission System Operator GAZ-SYSTEM SA has achieved a landmark milestone in Poland’s energy sector by finalizing the first floating regasification unit (FSRU) chartering agreement.
The agreement, signed between GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. and White Eagle Energy Ltd, a subsidiary of the Mitsui O.S.K. Lines group, sets out terms for the delivery and operation of the FSRU. This agreement paves the way for the construction of a floating terminal in the Gulf of Gdańsk.
Do you know what FSRUs are?
Floating Storage Regasification Units (FSRUs) are floating structures that bring LNG to the coast after receiving it offshore and regasifying it there. They provide the benefits of a quicker development process and reduced construction costs as compared to onshore storage tanks and regasification facilities.
As informed, this terminal will facilitate the unloading, storage, and regasification of LNG, contributing significantly to Poland’s energy diversification objectives and the broader energy transformation of its economy.
According to CMS, the contract was concluded for 15 years with the possibility of further extension and a guarantee of the right for GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. to buy the FSRU.
