Pacific International Lines (PIL) officially launched its inaugural two 14,000 TEU container ships during a ceremony held today at Jiangnan Shipyard in China. These vessels are the largest in PIL’s fleet and the first to operate entirely on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).
The names ‘Eagle’ and ‘Emerald’ symbolize PIL’s commitment to creating a sustainable shipping line that coexists harmoniously with nature. As informed, the new vessels have cutting-edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT), which will streamline operations and improve route planning through PIL’s Centre for Maritime Efficiency.
With 11 more dual-fuel ships on order, including two more 14,000 TEU vessels, PIL is set to improve its global connectivity and service capabilities.
The 14,000 TEU vessels, measuring 335 meters in length and 51 meters in width, use GTT’s Mark III LNG containment system and are equipped with various energy-saving technologies, including improved hull designs and advanced motor systems.
These vessels are said to be the first of their kind ordered by an Asian container shipping line in 2022.
PIL said it will introduce a vibrant red hull for its new vessels, including the Kota Eagle and Kota Emerald, as part of its brand refresh initiative, which began in 2024. It shows the company’s passionate commitment to delivering people-centric solutions.
In the coming years, the hulls of all PIL vessels will change from black to red, improving the brand’s identity.
