Amid a growing interest across the maritime to boost its diversity and performance, the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) have launched a questionnaire in a bid to understand how the issue of diversity and inclusion is perceived in the shipping industry.
In the next 10 years, it is expected that the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) agenda will include issues of diversity and inclusion.
D&I is defined as a company’s mission, practices and strategy with the scope to achieve a competitive business advantage.
Experts say companies that embrace diversity and inclusion in all aspects of their business statistically outperform their peers.
To better understand how these issues are viewed within the industry, the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) is inviting shipping companies to participate in a new questionnaire.
This comes amid an ongoing discussion for the participation of more women in shipping sector, especially in leadership positions, where the gap is greater.
To avoid duplication of answers being received from shipping companies, ICS has requested that any survey responses should come from the Company’s HR department or person responsible for Labor deployment.
The information received will be used to gain an understanding of the current situation and to assist ICS future policy making in this area and also production of future support materials.
The survey is available for completion until the end of September 2019. Following this date, data received will be collated into a report for further policy discussions.
