The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has responded to a fire onboard incident that occurred in the morning of November 2, 2023, involving the MV KEN, in the seas near Castilla Anchorage Area (Barangay Poblacion, Castilla, Sorsogon).
When the event happened, the MV KEN, a cargo vessel owned by Pherwin Shipping Corporation and moored at Milaor, Camarines Sur, was anchored. According to the inquiry, the MV KEN had eight crew members on board. Fortunately, all of them were unharmed.
They said that the fire originated in the mess hall of the ship. The PCG coordinated joint search and rescue (SAR) and firefighting operations with the Philippine Navy (PN) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
