Suspected drug smugglers rescued three Spanish border agents when a vessel collision sent the officers into the water and left their boat running in an uncontrolled turn.
In fact, as Spain’s Guardia Civil reported, on the morning of Friday, 4 October, a boat operated by Guardia Civil officers crashed with a RIB go-fast launch carrying four suspected drug traffickers, during an operation off the coast of Malaga.

A Guardia Civil’s Malaga Air Unit helicopter aircrew was monitoring the hunt and when they came into a realization about the situation, the aircrew used the helicopter’s PA loudspeaker to command the smugglers to help the officers. The suspects in particular, complied and went on to rescue all three of the Guardia Civil agents safely.
Whatsoever, the action did not save the smugglers from prosecution and the Spanish police eventually arrested them for the crime of drug trafficking, as it is estimated that after the chase, almost three tonnes of hashish were recovered from the sea.
