The 2014 fine tariffs
The Turkish Ministry of Environment and Urbanization has released the 2014 calculations for fines in relation to pollution in Turkish waters.
The 2014 fine tariffs are as follows:
I- Petrol and Petroleum products discharged to sea by tankers: 1.Up to 1000 (inclusive) gross tons:Per Ton* : 70.35 TL 2.Between 1000 and 5000 (inclusive) gross tons: Per Ton* : 17.55 TL 3.Over 5000 gross tons: Per Ton* : 1.69 TL II- Dirty ballast discharged to sea by tankers: 1.Up to 1000 (inclusive) gross tons: Per Ton* : 52.75 TL 2.Between 1000 and 5000 (inclusive) gross tons: Per Ton*: 10.52 TL 3.Over 5000 gross tons:Per Ton* : 1.69 TL III- Petrol/Petroleum products and dirty ballast discharged to sea by vessels or any other sea vehicles: 1.Up to 1000 (inclusive) gross tons:Per Ton* : 35.16 TL 2.Between 1000 and 5000 (inclusive) gross tons: Per Ton* : 7.00 TL 3.Over 5000 gross tons: Per Ton* : 1.69 TL IV- Garbage and sewage discharged to sea by vessels and any other sea vehicles: 1.Up to 1000 (inclusive) gross tons: Per Ton* : 17.55 TL 2.Between 1000 and 5000 (inclusive) gross tons: Per Ton*: 3.47 TL 3.Over 5000 gross tons: Per Ton* : 0.67 TL |
In the case of the repetition of the pollution offence by the same ship within three years time:
– At the first repetition, the fine amount is increased by one time more
– At the second and more repetition the fine is calculated and imposed twice as much.
In case of discharge of any dangerous substances or disposals to sea, the fine will be calculated ten times as much, taking the category of Petrol and Petroleum Products fines as basis.
If the fine is paid immediately (before the vessel’s sailing or within 30 days), a 25% reduction will be applied.
The UK P&I Club advices operators to take all steps not to cause any pollution by leakage/spillage of any kind of materials (paintings, oil, bilges, clean ballast, dirty ballast, all kind of residues, garbage, dirty waters, sewage waters, laundry waters with detergent, lavatory soap waters, shower waters, dust, rust etc.) |
