Total, Ørsted and Elicio issued a joint bid for the Dunkirk offshore wind farm project in France, aiming to a power capacity up to 600 MW, on February 18. The bid is Total’s first official entrance in offshore wind and an additional step to sustainability. Up to now, Total has been focusing on solar for its renewable energy business with the $1.3 billion acquisition of SunPower and a stake in solar and wind energy producer Total Eren.
Specifically, Philippe Sauquet, President Gas, Renewables and Power at Total, noted that Total’s participation in this project sees eye to eye with its plan on developing low-carbon electricity in Europe.

He continued stating that the partnership will bring many benefits as Ørsted has a market-leading expertise across the offshore wind energy chain, whereas Elicio is a qualified developer from the beginning of the bid, providing a basis for success of a competitive project.
Moreover, Total proceeded with announcements concerning the company acquiring Synova, who’s a French leader in manufacturing high-performance recycled polypropylene for the automotive sector.
Synova produces 20.000 tonnes annually of polypropylene that meets the highest quality standards of original equipment manufacturers and automakers from recycled plastics.
The combination of Synova’s recycling expertise and Total’s polymers know-how will increase the supply of recycled polypropylene for automotive applications that deliver the same performance as virgin polymers.
Finally, Total is one of the founders of the Alliance to End Plastic Waste, which unites almost 30 companies from across the plastic and consumer goods value chain.
