In effect immediately through 17 April 2014
NOAA has announced that a voluntary speed restriction zone (Dynamic Management Area- DMA) has been established south of Nantucket to protect anaggregation of 8 right whales sighted in this area on 2 April 2014. This DMA is in effectimmediately through 17 April 2014. Mariners are requested to route around these areas or transitthrough them at 10 knots or less.
Mariners are requested to avoid or transit at 10 knots or less inside the following areas wherepersistent aggregations of right whales have been sighted:
South of Nantucket DMA — in effect through 17 April 2014
41 12N
40 29N
70 41W
69 45W
ACTIVE SEASONAL MANAGEMENT AREAS (SMAs)Mandatory speed restrictions of 10 knots or less (50 CFR 224.105) are in effect in the followingareas:
Cape Cod Bay SMA — in effect through 15 May 2014
Off Race Point SMA — in effect through 30 April 2014
Great South Channel SMA — in effect through 31 July 2014
Mid-Atlantic SMAs — in effect through 30 April 2014
Southeast SMAs — in effect through 15 April 2014
