The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) is the principal international trade association for shipowners, concerned with legal, technical and operational issues.
The International Shipping Federation (ISF) is the identity used by ICS when acting as the international employers’ association for ship operators. Its interests include labour affairs, manpower and training, and seafarers’ welfare issues.
Together, ICS and ISF membership comprises national shipowners’ associations in 36 countries.
In addition to representing the interests of ship operators at bodies such as the International Maritime Organization and the International Labour Organization, the production and revision of maritime publications is one of the most important tasks that ICS and ISF undertake for the shipping industry.
These activities are co-ordinated under the banner of Marisec Publications.
Many of the industry guides are an essential complement to government regulations, and are required reading by companies and seafarers involved in maritime operations.
