Hitachi Zosen Marine Engine (HZME) has decided to invest in methanol supply systems and produce methanol engines.
This capital investment is not only for testing but also for establishing a production system for methanol-compatible dual fuel engine. The investment comes as no surprise considering that methanol is one of the most popular alternative fuel options and the orderbook for methanol fuelled vessels and engines is ever-expanding.
In particular, HZME has received an order from MAN for a methanol-compatible dual fuel test engine (4S90ME-C10.5-LGIM), and conducts technical verifications through manufacturing and onshore testing at its headquarters and plant. The outline of this capital investment is as follows:
