DNV GL issued a statutory update to notify that from 1 July 2015, ocean-going vessels are required to use fuel oil with 0.50% sulphur or less while at berth.
Hong Kong’s Information Service Department has announced the requirement that ocean-going vessels must comply with the new low sulphur requirement while at berth in Hong Kong.
Compliant fuel oils require a sulphur content of 0.50% or lower, or must be of liquefied gas or any other fuel approved by the Director of Environmental Protection.
Ocean-going vessels will be prohibited from using any other fuel than as stated above, except during the first hour after arrival and the last hour before departure. Equivalent arrangements to achieve the same or lower sulphur dioxide emissions might be accepted.
The switchover to low-sulphur fuel shall be recorded in the record book accordingly. The new sulphur regulation will be effective from 1 July 2015.
