Civil unrest over voter reforms has ignited in the Pacific island of New Caledonia, impacting port operations. According to NorthStandard, the southern road remains blocked, with transport and supplies relying on shuttles, barges, or small boats, leading to price hikes.
Furthermore, localized riots are reported with for instance fire caused by rioters in the industrial area of Doniambo (Noumea) some three days ago.
A decree from the High Commission, dated September 12 and published online on Friday, September 13, stipulates that the curfew in effect throughout New Caledonia will be extended.
Movement will be prohibited from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. until Saturday, September 21, at 5 a.m. Then, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., movement will be prohibited from the evening of Saturday, September 21, until the morning of Tuesday, September 24.
