Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), delivered the CMA CGM SEINE, the world’s largest 24,000-TEU LNG dual-fuel container ship, to France’s CMA CGM Group in Shanghai.
Measuring 399 meters in length and 61.3 meters in width, the vessel can carry 23,876 TEUs, including 2,200 refrigerated containers, and up to 220,000 tonnes of cargo. Its 18,600-cubic-meter MARK III membrane LNG tank enables it to sail nearly 20,000 nautical miles on a single LNG bunkering.
According to reports, the CMA CGM SEINE reduces CO₂ emissions by 20%, cuts nitrogen oxides by up to 85%, and nearly eliminates sulfur oxides and particulate matter, compared to similar oil-fueled vessels. It also boasts higher efficiency, enhanced fire safety, superior crew comfort, and compliance with IMO Tier III and latest SOLAS regulations.
This vessel is the first of four in its class ordered by CMA CGM and marks an advancement from the earlier Jacques Saadé-class ships, with 764 more TEUs and lower fuel consumption.
The ship will be deployed on a Far East-Europe route starting April 18. With this delivery, Hudong-Zhonghua has now supplied 17 container ships to CMA CGM, including 12 LNG dual-fuel vessels, underscoring China’s growing leadership in green, ultra-large vessel construction and shipbuilding innovation.
