Shipping giants take part in new data exchange platform

Shipment management software solutions provider, CargoSmart, announced the execution of Global Shipping Business Network (GSBN) Services Agreements with maritime industry operators CMA CGM, Cosco Shipping Lines, Cosco Shipping Ports, Hapag-Lloyd, Hutchison Ports, OOCL, Port of Qingdao, PSA International and Shanghai International Port Group.

CMA CGM maintains its security measures for operations in Persian Gulf

CMA CGM reported that its security measures are sufficient to keep operating in the Persian Gulf region, following concerns over a possible dispute between Iran and major global powers, Reuters reports, although the shipping company halted its operations in Iran in 2018 following the US sanctions. 

Hapag Lloyd implements vessel risk surcharge for vessels to/from Gulf Oman

After the recent attacks in the Gulf of Oman, Hapag Lloyd announced that the operating costs for their services in the Middle East Gulf region have increased. The attacks shocked the shipping industry resulting to CMA CGM also increasing its insurance costs in the area and implementing a War Risk Surcharge.

Hutchison Ports ICAVE begins operations in Veracruz

Hutchison Ports announced that the first operation of Hutchison Ports ICAVE within the modernization of the port of Veracruz, took place on July 1, at 6:30 am. The first operation of Hutchison Ports Internacional de Contenedores Asociados de Veracruz (ICAVE) within the modernization of the Port of Veracruz was undertaken with the visit by CMA CGM White Shark.

CMA CGM announces War Risk Surcharge in Middle East

CMA CGM informed that after considering the recent incidents in the Strait of Hormuz and the related significantly increasing insurance costs in the Middle East Gulf region, it decided to implement a War Risk Surcharge. The War Risk Surcharge will apply from July 5th, 2019.

Containerships welcomes second LNG-fueled vessel

Hamburg-based Containerships, a subsidiary of the French CMA CGM, announced it took delivery of its second LNG-powered ship, ‘Containerships Polar’, to operate in Northern Europe. The ship will be phased into the redesigned BALT 2 service in the Port of Rotterdam on 23 June.

Malta Freeport welcomes its first LNG-fueled container ship

Malta Freeport Terminals welcomed the first ever LNG-fueled container ship to visit Malta during the course of the vessel’s maiden voyage from Asia to Rotterdam. The ‘Containerships Polar’ discharged more than 560 containers during its call to Malta. 

APL reduces carbon emissions intensity by half since 2009

APL announced a 47.4% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions per container transported per kilometre in 2018, compared to its base level in 2009. The result comes after the Environmental Performance Assessment (EPA) of APL’s 2018 carbon dioxide emission data by the global non-profit organization Business for Social Responsibility’s Clean Cargo Working Group. 

Russia joins pilot TradeLens blockchain project

The Russian Ministry of Transport signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with A.P. Moller – Maersk, launching TradeLens in Russia. The blockchain platform is expected to significantly facilitate international trade, not least by the inclusion of the Port of St. Petersburg, Russia’s main container gateway, as part of the pilot launch.
