A cargo ship, carrying almost 800 tons of coal, capsized at Pashur channel near Mongla port of Bagerhat, Bangladesh, on Sunday morning, after collision with another vessel the previous night, local media reported.

The vessel, MV BB-1148, sank near Baniashanta area following collision with another vessel at about 11:30pm on Saturday night, according to Mongla police station information provided by Dhaka Tribune. All of the 12 crew members onboard managed to swim ashore and are safe.
The collision occurred as the BB-1148 was heading towards Mongla port from Harbaria through the Pashur channel, the Master was quoted as saying.
Regular activities continue at the port’s main channel, Mongla port authority said. Salvage operations began Monday morning.
