The Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA) officially announced that Certificate on Civil Liability for Oil Pollution Damage (CLC) and Certificate on Civil Liability for Bunker Oil Pollution Damage (CLB) document are the first certificates to be issued electronically.

As modern marine vessels and offshore units are equipped with various functionalities for structural and machinery health monitoring, efficiency monitoring, and operational performance management and optimization, the collection of data is carried out through sensors and onboard instrumentation in order to analyze data and provide health and condition awareness, operational and crew assistance, and operational optimization. ABS issued an Advisory paper on data quality for marine and offshore applications.

To support industry management of risk and safety ahead of the implementation of the 2020 sulphur cap, RightShip calls operators of ships more than 8,000 DWT to confirm their compliant fuel choices and ship implementation plans in a new compliance assessment. 

IMO is currently focusing on streamlining the many administrative procedures necessary when ships enter or leave port, which it considers as an important element. For this reason, IMO made available an important tool used by software developers, in order to create systems for exchanging the relevant data electronically. The tool is available online and free of charge.

CargoSmart announced the successful completion of a proof-of-concept with eTradeConnect, of the new data exchange platform Global Shipping Business Network (GSBN). The engagement explored ways to enhance global trade through better collaboration among shippers, banks, terminal operators, and ocean carriers, with applications to be further developed once the GSBN is formed.

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (K LINE), Mitsui O.S.K Lines, Ltd. (MOL), and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) have started sharing of operational data acquired from the monitoring system installed in their container ships with their charter, Ocean Network Express Pte. Ltd. (ONE), through the IoS-Open Platform (IoS-OP) promoted by Ship Data Center Ltd. (ShipDC).

BIMCO has made two proposals to the IMO, in order to pave the way for easy exchange of port logistic operational data and allow for real-time updates between ship and shore. The two proposals aim to limit the administrative burden for the shipping industry, as well as to ensure better communication between ships, ports, terminals and all other parties involved through the  harmonization of the data model used.
