SAFETY4SEA is pleased to announce that MarineFields Holding Ltd has received the 2020 SMART4SEA e-Navigation Award, sponsored by Latsco Marine Management Inc., at a prestigious award ceremony which successfully concluded on January the 28th at Yacht Club of Greece in Athens, the evening ahead of the 2020 SMART4SEA Forum.
MarineFields Holding Ltd received the award for its data sharing platform Perseus, which enables industry stakeholders to share time stamps and common situational awareness among each other associated to port call operations. It aims at providing capabilities for sharing time stamps, in the standardized format S-211. Other short-listed nominees for this category were: Furuno, Massterly, One Sea and Total Marine Solutions.
Presenting the award Capt. Dimitris Kalantidis, Maritime Safety Manager, Latsco Marine Management Inc. said “MarineFields has managed to create an innovative data sharing platform, providing a simple interface for all partners involved to instantly share data. In particular, it is an open digital platform for better standardization, safe interaction and enhanced situation awareness.”
Accepting the award on behalf of MarineFields Holding Ltd, Andreas Chrysostomou, Chief Strategy Officer, stated “In a time when arrivals and departures should be ‘Just-in-Time’, there is no better way of doing that by better sharing data, and collaborate more efficiently with different actors. We believe that we have created an infrastructure that will serve today’s shipping’s technology. It is a long effort, but we will establish a unique standard.”
MarineFields Holding Ltd, established in February 2017 as an impartial company allowing everyone to connect, provides an impartial and interoperable data sharing platform called Perseus. Namely, Perseus allows a port to connect with upstream and downstream ports; individual ships or shipping companies or other actors within or outside the port. This data sharing platform, which can be used by the existing infrastructure, establishes an ‘Internet of Maritime (IoM)’ by allowing inter-operability between the different involved systems. Perseus provides safe and secure digital interaction and collaborative decision- making based on real-time data sharing and further offers AI, Deep Learning & Blockchain solutions. As Andreas Chrysostomou, CEO, Marine Fields has stated “Safety and Security are intrinsic assets of Perseus. It uses various methods to ensure the data sharing through the systems is fully trustworthy and addresses key smart shipping challenges.’’
MarineFields Holding Ltd attracted the most votes by the end of the voting period which held online during a two-month period. SMART4SEA Awards are held annually within the scope of awarding industry’s outstanding practices for e-navigation, connectivity, energy efficiency, cyber security, training and smart shipping technology. Other winners of the 2020 SMART4SEA Awards are: OTESAT – MARITEL for the Connectivity Award, LAROS for the Energy Efficiency Award, Wärtsilä for the Cyber Security Award, DNVGL for the Training Award, METIS Cyberspace Technology SA. for the Technology Award, Mr. Dimitris Theodossiou, Managing Director, DANAOS Management Consultants S.A.for the Personality Award and Mr. Tor A. Svanes, Managing Director, NAVTOR AS for the Leadership Award.
