Issued by BIMCO, ICS, INTERCARGO, INTERTANKO
Piracy and armed robbery in the Gulf of Guinea region is an established criminal activity and is of increasing concern to the maritime sector. With recent attacks becoming more widespread and violent, industry has now identified an urgent need to issue interimguidelines for the Gulf of Guinea.
These interim Guidelines have been developed by BIMCO, ICS, INTERCARGO and INTERTANKO, and are supported by NSC.
The NSC, with its mission as NATO’s permanent merchant shipping information fusion centre, is tasked to provide guidance and act as an advisor to merchant shipping on potential risks. Enhancement of maritime security and support to current shipping industry initiatives is part of NSC’s mission. It is in this capacity that we are in support of the Interim Guidelines for the Gulf of Guinea.
