Hadi Haghshenas, deputy director of maritime affairs in Iran, supported, during the closing ceremony of the 26th conference on coordination of marine organizations in Tehran, that they expect the government’s support in favour of using low-sulphur fuel in the country’s fleet over the next ten months.
Referring to the use of low-sulphur fuel on the country’s fleet, he noted that the government has to support the maritime sector on the production of low-sulfur fuel in Irans petroleum refineries to prevent $ 700 million loss .
He also commented that
Bunkering and maritime refueling is a relative advantage for the country, which has not been properly used and the maritime sector, as one of the major sectors of the Iranian economy, is very influential on gross national income.
The Deputy director referred to the bunkering and refueling as one of the problems of the maritime and marine community as the ‘disproportionate share of this sector to the economy of the country’.
He later explained that with Iran ranked 17th in the world economy, the 21st rank of the country’s fleet, including oil tankers, commercial fleet and the private sector should get improved.
Specifically, the deputy director noted that the maritime sector is one of the most important sectors of the Iranian economy.
Iranian shipping is very influential on gross national income.
Finally, Haghshenas addressed that the effects of shipping will be obvious on employment and gross domestic income in particular.
