The fire onboard Maersk Frankfurt, a 255-meter container ship, that had been raging since July 19, off the coast of Karwar, has been contained by the Indian Coast Guard.
The blaze, which has resulted in the death of one crew member, was caused by a short circuit and has posed significant challenges due to the ship’s cargo of International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG). The fire has mostly been extinguished, but minor flare-ups continue.
