Twenty-five stowaways were found inside a refrigerated container on board a Britannia Seaways ferry. The vessel was sailing from the Netherlands to its final destination in United Kingdom. While en route to Felixstowe, the personnel discovered the stowaways, due to the fact that they heard sounds coming from the cooling container.
After finding the migrants onboard, the ship immediately called the authorities who arrived on the boat, while the ferry was still at sea. They then returned back in the port of Vlaardingen, near Rotterdam. According to BBC, Dutch Authorities and several ambulances were standby in the area of the port, waiting for the ship.
When the ferry arrived at the port, all of the twenty-five stowaways received medical supplies with two of them taken to the hospital, since they needed extra primary care. As for the other 23 people left, after the medical check-up there were transferred to the police station. Yet migrant’s nationality remains unknown.
Moreover, the police reported that the driver of the truck, that the stowaways were found, has been arrested for possible involvement after being detained. They further stated that they used police dogs for their research but no-one else was found inside the ferry.
Concluding, all of those found onboard were alive with some hypothermia symptoms noted, as several reports suggest that the majority were male.
