Eight new companies signed the Arctic Corporate Shipping Pledge, marking their decision of not shipping any goods through the Arctic Ocean, due to the news of high temperature in the area and in protection of the marine environment.
The new companies having signed the Arctic Corporate Shipping Pledge are
- Ralph Lauren;
- top freight forwarder Kuehne + Nagel;
- PUMA;
- International Direct Packaging;
- Allbirds;
- Aritzia;
- Hudson Shipping Lines;
- Bureo.
The newly added companies are a significant addition to the Pledge, keeping in mind that Ralph Lauren Corporation operates more than 500 stores worldwide; PUMA distributes products to more than 120 countries; and logistics giant Kuehne + Nagel ships nearly 5 million TEU in containerized cargo per year, making it the top freight forwarding company by ocean freight container volume.
The Pledge begun by the collaboration of Nike and nonprofit environmental group Ocean Conservancy, a voluntary commitment by consumer goods and shipping logistics companies to not send ships through the Arctic. In addition with the companies above, shipping company MSC and CMA CGM have already expressed their decision of not sailing in the Arctic Ocean.
