ECSA welcomes and applauds EU’s president-elect Ursula von der Leyen’s speech, which focused on the union’s goal for sustainability, climate challenges and digitalization, highlighting that a united Union will better-achieve its goals in collaboration with the IMO.
Specifically, President von der Leyen noted that the European shipping sector has to address today’s climate challenges, digitalization and innovation, while also completely reduce CO2 shipping emissions as faster as possible.
ECSA commented that the above stated are fully in line with the top 10 priorities ECSA has set for itself.
ECSA’s Secretary General, Martin Dorsman, stated that
With its great maritime heritage, climate and social ambitions, profound maritime knowledge and constant innovations, the growth potential of the European shipping industry can only be secured through a strong European Union, backed by a globally-oriented European Commission.
Mr Dorsman added that shipping stakeholders should altogether take the path to decarbonization, as the transition “must be just and inclusive – or it will not happen at all“.
