Namely, the terminal will strengthen CMP’s role and make it the leading actor concerning freight handling in the capital region and throughout Eastern Denmark. CMP has long been supplying Copenhagen and Eastern Denmark with containered cargo and it has a leading role in the flow of products to shops and businesses in the capital region. CMP is thus part of a large transport network, which links the Danish container operation to all major international ports.


The new container terminal will be 85,000 square metres in size and have a depth of water of 12.5 metres. This is 2.5 metres deeper in comparison to today's depth. The change will make sure that the future's feeder ships will be able to enter the terminal. Also, the terminal will be semi-automatic, meaning that the handling will be, in its majority, automatic.

Moreover, sustainability is an important factor for CMP. Cranes, machinery and vehicles will be run by renewable fuels. The new sustainability methods are included in the option for energy solutions for heating, materials and technologies to be used in construction of the terminals.

In the time being, authorities are conducting an environmental assessment concerning the whole project that is expected to conclude in the following 6 months.

Povl Dolleris Røjkjær Ungar, COO Cars, General Cargo and Container within CMP addressed that the terminal will also focus on safety issues and technical fire considerations. He continued stating that the partnership is working well, meaning that in several areas CMP will construct the parameters for the innovative new terminal solution together with the authorities.

Also, the new terminal brings in the surface the idea of expanding, so that the terminal grows along with the developments in the market. The technology enables higher productivity compared with today and contributes to the more efficient and stable flows that the terminal aspires to have.

Finally, the Outer Northern Harbour, according to Povl, is located outwards the sea, which means that the turnaround times will decrease and will produce less emission sand noises from the ships.
