The Cyprus Shipping Chamber joined the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN) in efforts to eradicate corruption in the shipping sector.
Specifically, the Chamber and MACN signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC), on 16 November 2020, with the aim to collaborate on the eradication of corruption in the maritime sector and to safeguard a fair and sustainable maritime operating environment
Recently, Panama Ship Registry joined MACN becoming part of the world’s largest group of maritime companies fighting for a better and corruption-free business environment.
Overall, MACN has shed its focus on promoting a global anonymous incident reporting system for seafarers while it looks for further developing its projects in the Suez Canal, Nigeria, Indonesia, and Argentina and starting a new one in India.
The Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN), that also launched an anti-corruption toolkit, was established in 2011, by a small group of maritime companies committed to fighting corruption. The network has grown to include over 130 members globally, representing the entire maritime industry value chain. MACN promotes best practice in the maritime industry for tackling bribes, facilitation payments and other forms of corruption.
