Shanghai, China’s most populous city, is set to remain shut, including Puxi and a significant part of Pudong. Despite the fact that the restrictions were about to be lifted, the timeframe of the imposed lockdown was changed.
It is important to recall that Shanghai’s lockdown was supposed to last just a couple of days for residents, depending on where they lived, with a two-phase roll-out. However, the city government, yesterday, extended an existing lockdown in eastern districts.
Precisely, the first half of the city went under restrictions on Monday, and it was meant to last 3 for 5 days before being lifted and transferred to the Puxi district for another 4 days.
While China is trying to stick to its zero-covid policy, as of now, almost all residents are obliged to stay home without knowing how long the strict measures will stay. As informed, Shanghai, accounts for 3 out of every 4 local asymptomatic cases across the country.
Under the measures of this lockdown, factories and public transport are all shut. While the city’s many port terminals are operating, productivity however has fallen dramatically this week.
