A Philippine cargo vessel collided with a Cyprus-flagged dredger in a Manila Bay anchorage area on July 6.
No injuries were reported from the collision, but the cargo vessel developed a list and is lying half-submerged.
As of now it is not clear what caused the accident, which caused the M/V Palawan Pearl to take on water, while also damaging the paint on the dredger’s hull.
The dredger was carrying out outdredging works for a new Manila airport project. As for the cargo vessel, at the time of the incident it had 18 crewmen on board.
After the incident, coast guard personnel surrounded the Palawan Pearl with floating booms, in order to contain any potential oil spill.
What is more, an investigation is underway to determine the causes of the accident.
