On 23 November the offshore support vessel BRAVE TERN knocked a 25-ton mobile crane onto a small barge at the Navantia Shipyard in Spain.
As reported, the incident occurred while the vessel was preparing to depart. Fortunately, no injuries were reported and the crane’s cab and base remained above the water after it toppled.
The BRAVE TERN, which had recently been fitted with a new 1600-ton crane, was leaving the shipyard when its boom accidentally caused the onshore mobile crane to fall onto a small barge.
According to the reports, after anchoring briefly, the vessel returned to the pier and was still docked at the shipyard as of 26 November.
Carlos Diaz, an executive at Navantia Shipyard, explained to a local paper that the incident resulted from a miscalculation during the maneuver, not from any environmental conditions. He assured that the situation was under control and posed no further risk to life or property.
