A Malaysian forklift operator was hospitalised after a shipping container toppled onto the forklift he was operating at Pasir Panjang Terminal 3 in Singapore, according to reports.
As reported, the Ministry of Manpower stated that the operator suffered lacerations to his head and body but was reported to be in stable condition after being taken to the hospital. Reportedly, the Singapore Civil Defense Force confirmed receiving a report of a serious accident at the terminal on November 25. Closed-circuit TV footage from the Pasir Panjang Terminal showed the forklift operator moving a box in front of a stack when the stack became unstable, causing the top box to tip and fall onto the forklift before hitting the ground.
According to the reports, an investigation is currently underway and Singaporean authorities have ordered the terminal operator, PSA, to suspend handling empty containers in the aftermath of the incident.
Regulators emphasized the importance of adhering to guidelines regarding maximum stacking height and proper stacking techniques. Per the reports, the Ministry of Manpower instructed PSA to halt all empty container handling activities and mandated the operator to review workplace health and safety protocols and operations.
