HD Hyundai Mipo launched the world’s largest liquefied carbon dioxide (LCO₂) carrier on April 15 at its Ulsan headquarters.
This 22,000 cubic meter vessel is the first of four advanced LCO₂ carriers ordered by Capital Clean Energy Carriers between July 2023 and January 2024. The vessel is scheduled for delivery by the end of 2025, with its sister ships to follow by the second half of 2026.
The ship measures 160 meters in length, 28 meters in width, and 18 meters in height. It features three storage tanks capable of maintaining temperatures as low as -55°C and operating under a pressure of around 7 barg, ensuring the stable transport of liquefied gases including CO₂, LPG, and ammonia.
The vessel also incorporates eco-friendly systems such as a 2,500 kW shore power unit, nitrogen oxide reduction technology, and ice-resistant design (Ice Class 1C), making it suitable for clean energy transport in diverse environments.
