Skretting, has entered into a 15-year agreement with Vertom and Strand Shipping for the lease of four diesel-electric vessels.
As stated, over the past year, the partners have designed the vessels which feature energy-efficient hulls and a diesel-electric, multi-fuel propulsion system. This configuration is expected to reduce fuel consumption and emissions by approximately 30% compared to conventional systems.
Each vessel will be equipped with a range of sustainable technologies that contribute to reducing emissions and improving efficiency. These include biofuel capabilities and shore-power connections that allow the vessels to cut emissions during port operations.
In addition, where feasible, wind-assisted propulsion (WAPS) will also be integrated to further reduce fuel consumption.
Furthermore, the vessels will feature several other decarbonization measures aimed at enhancing overall environmental performance. As announced, most of the vessels are scheduled to be delivered in 2026.
