WinGD, Wärtsilä and GTT have agreed to collaborate in making the use of LNG fuel a viable option for ship owners and operators. The companies will cooperate in order to deliver a streamlined approach for achieving compliance with upcoming environmental legislation.
LNG is considered as key for ships’ ‘green’ propulsion. It has virtually no sulphur content, produces 80% less nitrogen oxide (NOx) and 30%t less CO2 emissions than conventional marine fuels.

In 2017, an uptake of LNG as a marine fuel was recorded, as CMA CGM ordered its nine ‘mega’ containerships, each with a record capacity of 22,000 TEU, to be built with LNG fuelled engines. These will be the first vessels of this type and size to operate on LNG. WinGD, Wärtsilä, and GTT will cooperate to provide the needed equipment for these vessels.
LNG requires close integration between the engines, the fuel cargo tanks, and the fuel supply and control system. For this reason the three companies will try to optimise this integration process, Philippe Berterottière, Chairman and CEO of GTT, informed.
