On February 28th, vessel MV LEONIDAS (IMO: 9696474), managed by Laskaridis Shipping Co. Ltd, while proceeding to Port Veracruz, Mexico, received a mayday call from the fishing boat “Benjamin” by VHF.
The three fishermen onboard, notified the crew of M/V Leonidas that they sailed from Yukatan and had been drifting for 25 days, unable to contact authorities. Their vessel had a broken propeller and was immobilized. Luckily, their health was in good condition.
MV LEONIDAS changed course and proceeded to the fishing boat. After less than an hour, the fishing boat “Benjamin” was moored to the port side of MV LEONIDAS. The crew of MV LEONIDAS provided the fishermen with fresh water, food, and any medical assistance necessary.
M/V Leonidas will take the the fishermen to Port Veracruz and will continue its operations.
