A collision between two vessels near Yangmao Island, Ningbo, in the early hours of 30 March resulted in the sinking of a bulk carrier, leaving one person dead and three injured.
According to the Ningbo Maritime Safety Administration, the accident occurred at approximately 2:50 a.m. when the container vessel Ningyuan Beilun collided with the bulk carrier Jianghai Zhida 66. The impact caused the Jianghai Zhida 66 to sink rapidly.
Rescuers managed to save all 13 crew members who fell into the water, though one was found without vital signs. Three others sustained injuries and were hospitalized, while the remaining nine were reported safe. The Ningyuan Beilun remained afloat and was later anchored for further investigation.
Authorities have launched an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the collision. Reports indicate that the Jianghai Zhida 66 sank within five minutes of impact, underscoring the severity of the crash.
The Ningyuan Beilun, an open-top container vessel operated by Ningbo Ocean Shipping, was newly delivered on February 27, 2025, from Taizhou Jianxing Heavy Industry.
