The Indian Ocean MoU has updated the list of foreign ships which are currently banned by its Member Authorities. The bans involve five ships in Australia, two in India, three in Iran, and two in Myanmar. The list is effective from 17 December.
Australia

- Type: Bulk carrier
- Period of ban: 13 Sept. 2019 to 14 March 2021
- Reason: Failed to pay crew their wages in full and on time – a gross breach of the Maritime Labour Convention.
–>Ship: AGIA SOFIA
- Type: Bulk carrier
- Period of ban: 27 July 2020 to 24 Jan 2021
- Reason: AMSA has refused access due to systemic underpayment of wages found on-board.
–>Ship: HAMBURG
- Type: Bulk carrier
- Period of ban: 30 July 2020 to 29 Jul 2021
- Reason: Wage exploitation.
–>Ship: UNISON JASPER
- Type: Bulk carrier
- Period of ban: 29 Aug 2020 to 25 Feb 2021
- Reason: Breaches to the Maritime Labour Convention related to the operation of several sets of wage accounts and multiple conflicting seafarer employment agreements.
–>Ship: AC SESODA
- Type: Bulk carrier
- Period of ban: 17 Sept 2020 to 17 Sept 2021
- Reason: AMSA banned the Panama-flagged bulk carrier AC Sesoda for deliberately underpaying its crew by more than AUD $118,000, which the ship’s operator attempted to conceal from authorities.
India

- Type: Asphalt tanker
- Period of ban: 11 Nov 2020 to 11 Nov 2021
- Reason: Wrong declaration of ports and concealment of navigational records.
–>Ship: MT TULIP
- Type: Oil / Chemical tanker
- Period of ban: 17 Dec 2020 to further notice
- Reason: 1. The Owners have violated the orders issued by Directorate for a single direct ballast voyage to repair port and continued to trade with serious deficiencies even carrying cargo onboard. 2. The Owners have changed the flag of the vessel without any intimation to the Registrar in lieu of complying with the order issued by the Directorate.
Iran

- Type: Oil products tanker
- Period of ban: Permanent
- Reason: Ship inspected on 17.10.2016 and was banned due to single hull.
–>Ship: Tamara
- Type: General cargo
- Period of ban: Permanent
- Reason: Ship inspected on 13.04.2017 and was banned due to single hull.
–>Ship: Sofia
- Type: Chemical tanker
- Period of ban: Permanent
- Reason: Ship inspected on 03.06.2017 and was banned due to single hull.
Myanmar
–>Ship: Bratasena
- Type: Crude oil tanker
- Period of ban: 24 June 2020 to further notice
- Reason: As reported by the Authority of Myanmar, the ship sailed out illegally without permission from the port Authority and switched off AIS and also violated Myanmar national laws and other guidelines.
–>Ship: COBIJA
- Type: Fishing vessel
- Period of ban: Permanent
- Reason: Sailing under fake certification.
