The UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (UK MCA) has announced that two foreign flagged ships remained under detention in UK ports at the end of March after failing Paris MOU Port State Control (PSC) inspection.
Inspections of foreign flagged ships in UK ports are undertaken by surveyors from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency. When a ship is found to be not in compliance with applicable convention requirements, deficiencies may be raised. Depending on the inspection findings, the vessel may be liable for detention in these cases.
During March, there were three new detentions of a foreign flagged vessel in a UK port:
#1 SUDE-S
The Malta (white list) flagged vessel was found with five deficiencies with two grounds for detention on 01 March 2024 at Grangemouth. This vessel was released 04 March 2024.
#2 EEMS SERVANT
The Netherlands (white list) flagged vessel was found with twenty-two deficiencies with three grounds for detention on 08 March 2024 at Sharpness. This vessel was released 21 March 2024.
#3 TRUFFALDINO
The Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (grey list) flagged vessel was found with six deficiencies with one ground for detention on 21 March 2024 at New Holland. This vessel was released on 28 March 2024.
