On 15th January, Houthi forces in Yemen targeted the U.S.-owned and operated dry bulk vessel Gibraltar Eagle with an anti-ship ballistic missile, as confirmed by U.S. Central Command.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) office reported that a ship’s Master observed a missile impacting the vessel’s port side from above, approximately 95 nautical miles southeast of Aden, Yemen.
The U.S. Central Command has officially verified the incident, stating that the M/V Gibraltar Eagle was targeted by an anti-ship ballistic missile launched from Houthi-controlled regions in Yemen.
The vessel, which is a Marshall Islands-flagged bulk carrier owned by an entity under Eagle Bulk Shipping (USA) LLC in Stamford, Connecticut, has reported no injuries or significant damage and is continuing its journey. This event comes after a previous unsuccessful missile launch by the Houthi forces.
To remind, on January 12, Houthi rebels launched a missile strike near Yemen, targeting a tanker that was transporting Russian oil.
