Transport Malta issued a notice to mariners, as the Merchant Shipping Directorate wishes to remind vessels covered by Regulation (EU) No 2015/757 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 29 April 2015 on the regulations concerning monitoring, reporting and verification of carbon dioxide emissions.
Specifically, concerning the monitoring, reporting and verification of carbon dioxide emissions from maritime transport and amending Directive 2009/16/EC, i.e. ships above 5,000 GT and which call at any port under the jurisdiction of an EU member state, should be reminded that:
- By April 30,2019: The companies should have already issued verified emissions reports concerning the CO2 emissions, based on the previous entire reporting period for each vessel to the European Commission and to the Merchant Shipping Directorate through THETIS-MRV.
- By June 30, 2019: The vessels that have visited EU ports during a previous reporting period should carry along an official Document of Compliance, issued by a verifier having verified that the emissions report fulfils the requirements of the Regulation.
