Why is a ship called she? “Ships are referred to as ‘she’ because men love them” or “like a woman, a ship is unpredictable”, tradition used to say. But seriously, what is lagging behind this language idiom?  

On March 24, the LNG carrier Aseem collided with the 280,000 dwt VLCC Shinyo Ocean at the Fujairah anchorage. Shinyo Ocean suffered a huge portside hull-height breach, whereas Aseem suffered severe bow damage. Both of the vessels remain on anchorage after the incident.
