The six British maritime security guards of the MV Seaman Guard Ohio, known as the ‘Chennai 6’, have won their appeal against false weapons licence charges in the India Appeal Court, on Monday.

RMI Administrator issued a marine advisory to underline the importance of ensuring awareness of the requirements for completing and submitting RMI 'Critical Items Checklist', and ensuring that it accurately reflects the status of the critical items, to avoid unsafe conditions onboard RMI-flagged ships.

UK MCA informed that nine foreign flagged ships were under detention in UK ports during September 2017 after failing Port State Control (PSC) inspection, including Indian and four (4) Panama flagged vessels in the Territory of British Sea. 

The general cargo vessel "NIHAL" will be refused further access to any port and anchorage in the Paris MOU region, after it was detained in Birkenhead, UK, on 18 September 2017 due to multiple detentions.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority has banned the Panama-flagged bulk carrier DL Carnation for 12 months, after the vessel was discovered keeping two sets of wage accounts, covering up the underpayment of crew.

The Bahamas Maritime Authority issued a technical alert related to detentions and deficiencies found during USCG examination of cruise ships. During 2016, USCG reported a total of 103 detentions, of which 3 were cruise ships.

The replacement crew of a Panama-registered ship asks repatriation, as the ship has been detained in Sharpness Docks, Gloucestershire, for over two months,  amid claims ‘modern day slavery’ conditions. The ship has been detained since early June, for unpaid wages and poor working conditions.
