Google announced the biggest corporate purchase of renewable energy in history, made up of a 1,600-megawatt (MW) package of agreements and 18 new energy deals. These are all part of the company's work to tackle climate change at a global scale. 

AW-Energy, the Finnish wave energy developer, has completed the construction of the first commercial 350 kW WaveRoller unit, which is prepared for deployment at Peniche in Portugal. The device converting ocean wave energy to electricity, functions in near-shore locales at depths of 8 to 20 meters and the mechanism can be partially or entirely submerged depending on tidal conditions.

The joint initiative 'Hydroports' will develop a hydrogen cluster, located in the north-west of the Netherlands, that will focus on energy transition and boost the role of green hydrogen in the shipping industry. Specifically, 'Hydroports' consists of the Port of Rotterdam, Den Helder and Groningen. 

The EU evaluated the existing report about energy taxation which was firstly launched in 2003, given that when the EU rules on energy taxation no longer deliver the same positive contribution as when they first came into force. 

In the most recent Energy Transition Outlook, DNV GL presents its timeline of the next 30 years of the energy transition, which shows many astonishing milestones. Namely, the one of the key takeaways of the timeline is the peak of energy supply and demand, but there are other significant milestones as well. According to the timeline oil will peak at 2022, while 4 years later transport energy demand will peak.

In light of DNV GL's Energy Transition Outlook 2019 launch, this infographic describes 10 measures that aim to help close the emissions gap to well below 2°C. However, DNV GL added that policies must also be developed in order to mitigate at least three fronts at the same time: higher energy efficiency, more renewables, and industrial-scale CCS.

DNV GL issued its Energy Transition Outlook for 2019 examining the energy future through to 2050. The forecast says the technology available is able to deliver the Paris Agreement climate goals, but only with strongly enforced policies aimed to enhance Nationally Determined Contributions. 

In light of the opening of Corvus Energy's first production plant in Norway, Corvus inked an agreement with AIDA Cruises to electrify the first cruise ship of AIDA Cruises; AIDAperla will be the first ship to be equipped with lithium-ion batteries.

The Smart Green Shipping Alliance (SGSA) entered the European Space Agency Business Incubation Centre United Kingdom (ESA BIC UK), and was provided with a grant to develop a prototype digital tool for the precise quantification of available wind for any ship, on any route.

The German offshore wind industry associations published a joint statement for the implementation of the special contribution of offshore wind energy for the development of a 2GW capacity, in light of the 2030 climate goals.
