The $538 million first phase of the new Deepwater Port of Posorja in Ecuador by DP World, has been completed and is now successfully operational. The US$1.2 billion project will replicate Dubai’s Jebel Ali Port and freezone, opening a gateway for large container ships with capacities exceeding 10,000 TEUs.

A EUR 187 million (USD 205.4 million) contract was signed by Poland’s Maritime Office in Gdynia, for the development of a shipping channel through the Vistula Spit connecting the Vistula Lagoon with the Bay of Gdańsk. A channel, two breakwaters, two rotating bridges over the lock, four sluice gates, landscapes, buildings, roads and their soil reinforcement, and even a 190-hectare artificial island within the Vistula Lagoon are to be developed.

The European Commission greenlighted Greece's plan to grant €47.3 million of public support for the construction of a new quay in the port of Igoumenitsa, on the north-west coast of Greece. The project aims to decrease congestion, harmful emissions and the risk of accidents by relocating the port's international activities to a new quay situated out of the city of Igoumenitsa. 

The Alabama State Port Authority announced that along with the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) signed the Mobile Harbor Pre-Construction, Engineering and Design Agreement that marks the deepening and widening of Alabama's only deep-water seaport. 

In order for ships to enter the new lock in the Port of Amsterdam in a safe way, Jasper Coremans, Project Coordinator of OpenIJ, explains that works are being conducted on the west side of the new lock to realise a proper approach channel.

The Port of Los Angeles announced a development opportunity for an Outer Harbor Cruise Terminal at Berths 46 and 50, as well as plans to launch a Request for Proposal (RFP) later this fall. The proposal targets cruise lines, terminal operators, and real estate developers, who want to create a new cruise terminal.

The Port of Hamburg informs that Finkenwerder is currently expanding the waiting point for larger vessels, enabling two ships in the future that are 400 and 450 metres long to be moored at the same time. The floating cranes project is one of the largest projects the past few years, measures in working days and revenue, as the Port comments.

The Department of Transport announced the sixteen ports in England that will receive a multimillion-pound funding pot to boost their preparations for Brexit. The £10 million Port Infrastructure Resilience and Connectivity (PIRC) competition offers up to £1 million to each port.

Carnival Corporation, the Miami-based cruise ship major, along with its two cruise line brands, sealed a deal with the authorities of The Bahamas undertaking two essential port developments. Construction is expected to begin by mid-2020, after all environmental and allowance processes are completed.

The Moravian-Silesian Region, Statutory City of Ostrava, the Railway Administration Authority (SŽDC), Concens Investments and Antwerp Port Authority will collaborate to develop a new container terminal in the Mošnov industrial zone. On September 18, 2019 they signed a Memorandum of Understanding to kick-start this new project, called the Mosnov Multimodal Transport Terminal.
