FPSO Cidade de Itaguai arrives at Brazil

The FPSO Cidade de Itaguaí platform vessel has recently been anchored in the Iracema North area of the Lula field, in the Santos Basin, off the coast of the State of Rio de Janeiro. The unit has the capacity to produce 150 thousand barrels of oil per day and compression of 8 million cubic meters of natural gas per day. Production is expected to begin in the third quarter this year. Anchored 240 km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, at a depth of approximately 2 240 metres, the FPSO Cidade de Itaguaí will be connected to eight production wells and nine injection wells. The natural gas will be exported onshore through a sub-sea pipeline. Additionally, the unit has storage capacity of 1.6 million barrels of oil and injection capacity of 264 thousand barrels of water per day. The Cidade de Itaguaí vessel had 12 modules built in Brazil, 10 at Empresa Brasileira de Engenharia’s site in Itaguaí and two at Schahin’s site in São Sebastião. The integration of these modules took place at the BrasFELS shipyard in Angra dos Reis. The platform vessel was procured by the Schahin/Modec consortium, which had the responsibility for the conversion of ...

Canada invests in safe oil and gas shipping

The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Transport, along with John Weston, Member of Parliament for West Vancouver - Sunshine Coast - Sea to Sky Country, announced that the Government of Canada is providing $3.7M to Clear Seas Centre for Responsible Marine Shipping to help establish the Vancouver-based Centre and support its initial operations. The activities of the Centre will support the Government's commitment to protect Canada's coasts, and to enhance marine safety through the World-Class Tanker Safety System, which aims to strengthen ship-source spill prevention, preparedness and response, and liability and compensation. The Centre's mandate is to be the leading, independent source of evidence-based information on best practices for marine shipping, including the shipping of natural resource products, and to promote and facilitate research that supports the highest standards for safe and responsible marine transportation. Specifically, the Centre will: Serve as a trusted, independent source for information on the safe handling and shipping of oil and gas products, including liquefied natural gas; Identify and facilitate research related to the shipment of resource products; Provide a forum for sharing best practices and dialogue with the public, Aboriginal groups and a broad range of stakeholders; and Provide a structured framework for the ongoing research and ...

Celebrating 50 years of UK offshore oil and gas

https://vimeo.com/130986870#at=1 Oil and Gas UK launched a short animation celebrating 50 years of exploration for oil and gas on the UK continental shelf and the production that has been achieved over 40 years. It gives a potted history of oil and gas development in the UK, highlights the sector’s significant contribution to British jobs, skills, technology and energy security and underlines the industry’s potential to remain a driving force in Britain’s economy for decades to come.In the start, I was frank with you propecia before and after has changed my life. It has become much more fun, and now I have to run. Just as it is improbable to sit.

BMT: Mooring integrity monitoring in today’s market

The need for mooring integrity monitoring has of late come back under the spotlight, not least because the use of floating production systems in the offshore Oil and Gas industry has been predicted to grow at a significant rate between now and 2017 with a peak in the number of new builds expected to occur in 2016/2017. Recently, an updated industry guideline on mooring integrity has been issued by Oil & Gas UK with the support of operators, contractors and vendors. The guideline reinforces how mooring integrity management through effective monitoring and data management can provide information to help detect mooring line failure and assist with validation of mooring design strength and fatigue analyses. Station keeping through the life of a field is of critical importance for floating production facilities in all parts of the world. The mooring system performs this function, and although it has not always been the case, current design practice is to engineer mooring systems that can withstand extreme environments with single or even multiple line failure scenarios. Even so, the offshore industry has experienced numerous unexpected mooring line failures in recent years that, in a small number of cases, have resulted in mooring system ...

Tanker shipping's fortunes rest on US shale oil production

How much US shale oil production is taken out of service will be a key driver of future tanker shipping earnings, according to the latest edition of the Tanker Forecaster, published by global shipping consultancy Drewry. Tanker operators are pinning their hopes on a rise in US crude oil imports as domestic shale oil extraction becomes increasingly unprofitable. Low oil prices have made crude extraction unprofitable for many US producers, leading to a fall in US rig counts and shrinking exploration and production investment. “Continued expansion of refinery capacity in Asia is likely to maintain growth in the global oil trade over the next five years,” said Rajesh Verma, Drewry’s tanker shipping lead analyst. “But demand from Asia alone will not be sufficient to sustain the improvement in tonnage utilisation. The only alternative source of growth is a recovery in US oil imports, especially when declining European refinery capacity will mean lower import volumes to EU countries.” Following two years of slow growth, the global trade in oil has accelerated over the past nine months due to increased stocking. And Drewry expects this trend to continue through to the end of 2016. However, thereafter we expect the influence of ...
