Presenting a recent case of crew moving steel plates in its monthly "Risk Watch" report, the Britannia P&I Club informed on the risks associated with moving heavy objects. According to the case, three crew members were moving ten pieces of steel plate around the steering gear room, while the ship was underway.

The ATSB has issued an investigation report on the Searoad Mersey incident that happened off the Grassy Harbour. In particular, the ship grounded on the sandy bottom to the east of the inner breakwater.

CHIRP has issued a new series of videos providing best practices on how to handle unsafe situation onboard. This initiative launched by CHIRP and sponsored by the Standard P&I Club, is part of CHIRP’s mission to promote safety awareness amongst seafarers.

Latest MARS report from the Nautical Institute has been released. IMCA has reported a number of incidents involving the small workboats used in the offshore renewables sector, providing proper recommendations for each of them.

IMCA has reported an incident in which a person was scalded when working in the kitchen/pantry area onboard a vessel. The incident occurred when the injured person was rinsing dishes in the ships pantry, near a boiler. The boiler exhausted steam through a vent pipe, and so a plastic tube was retro-fitted to the vent, allowing any condensate to drain into the sink in which the dishes were rinsed.

IMCA highlights a potential gap in safety awareness which may be of interest to operators. In one vessel, there has been noted a CO2 flooding system activation point within the main CO2 bottle room, however, there were no warnings or procedural guidance on the use of Breathing Apparatus (BA) within the main CO2 bottle room when operating the system.
