Cargo theft trends on global supply chains during 2019

The transport and logistic insurer TT Club along with the global provider BSI issued the “Cargo Theft Report 2020” highlighting the impact of cargo theft on the global supply chain, while giving its recommendations of how theft risks can be reduced.

Greek-flagged tanker denies accusations on Brazil’s oil spill

Following the two months of environmental disaster in Brazil after an oil spill, investigators suggested that a greek-flagged tanker, carrying Venezuelan oil, is the main suspect of this polluting situation. Yet, the Greek Company, Delta Tankers Ltd. denies all accusations supporting that their vessel reached its destination without any problem. 

Carnival cruise ship damaged in Panama canal

A Carnival Cruise Line vessel was damaged on September 20 while travelling through the Panama Canal. The owner company stated that Carnival Fantasy, which was built in 1990, came in contact with one of the locks while the water levels were being lowered. It was also announced that no one was injured during the incident.

TT Club and BSI Supply Chain Services and Solutions issued the Global Cargo Theft Intelligence and Advisory Report for 2018, highlighting the impact of cargo theft on the global supply chain. This follows an earlier publication for the first half of 2018.

Vessel contact with pier linked to inaccurate labeling of alarms

The US NTSB issued an investigation report on the contact of the towing vessel ‘Steve Richoux’ with a pier on the Mississippi River, caused by a steering system failure. There were no pollution or injuries, but estimated property damage exceeded $3 million.

Poor maintenance led to barge breakaway in Ohio River

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) issued an investigation report on a barge breakaway incident in the Ohio River which caused an estimated $12.5 million damage and an unknown release of coal and cement into the water. 

Crankcase breach of port main engine leads to fire

The US  National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) issued an investigation report on the engine room fire onboard the towing vessel ‘Leland Speakes’ on the Lower Mississippi River, in February 2018. A catastrophic failure and crankcase breach of the port main engine caused the fire. 

Watch: Barges break loose, hit dam on Arkansas River

Two unmanned barges broke loose Wednesday night from their mooring site in the Port of Muskogee, staying adrift for several hours on the swollen Arkansas River, Oklahoma, before they crashed into a dam, Thursday. The barges were carrying about 3,800 pounds of phosphate fertilizer between them.
