DNV has awarded HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) a General Approval for Ship Application (GASA) for their new LNG carrier design.
According to NDV, this design introduces a streamlined configuration featuring three cargo tanks instead of the traditional four, which is expected to enhance cargo capacity and lower maintenance costs by reducing the number of pump towers and cryogenic equipment.
Additionally, HHI’s use of GTT’s Mark III Flex technology aims to decrease the boil-off rate and reduce electricity consumption for cargo handling, further lowering operational costs. As informed, the design maintains efficient cargo unloading times with improved pump capacity.
Jae Jun Jung from HHI highlighted that the design incorporates advanced technology to boost operational efficiency and profitability while maintaining competitive traditional hull designs. Meanwhile, DNV’s Vidar Dolonen praised HHI’s focus on sustainability and adherence to rigorous standards in the approval process.
This multi-stakeholder project demonstrates that international collaboration can pave the way for approval of innovative design solutions and thereby lead to improved efficiency and cost reduction. Congratulations to HHI for this excellent achievement.
